Sugarcane is a fundamental C4 crop in many regions of the world, valued not only for its economic contribution but also for its significance in biofuel production and other derivatives. This crop encounters considerable challenges stemming from climate variability, which adversely impacts both its productivity and yield.
Eldana saccharina, the African stalk borer, attacks sugarcane in most African countries with a major impact on cane and sugar yields. Microbial isolates from sugar crop-processing facilities were tested for susceptibility to industrial antimicrobial agents to determine minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values for optimal dosing. Hydritreat 2216 (peracetic acid) showed broad spectrum activity against all bacterial isolates as well as Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
