Chromatography is a technique of choice for the purification of saccharides (glucose, fructose, sucrose, oligosaccharides). APPLEXION has developed a digital tool (Perform 4.0) to validate the design of an industrial chromatography system from pilot scale and to enhance production and reduce chemicals and energy consumption. Process development comprised experiments at laboratory scale, modeling, simulation and digital tool configuration. Perform 4.0 helped the conduct of an industrial unit by choosing optimal settings and maintaining production.
Biomass (including bagasse) is acknowledged as a renewable and eco-friendly energy source, gaining traction on a global scale. Combustion of some biomass has always been a challenge in traveling-grate technology because of the highly fouling and corrosive nature of ash.
The effects of corrosion due to the presence of sulphur in fuel have been widely studied and recommendations have been made on the position of economizer-heater arrangement, minimum temperatures of air, water and gases and others.
Sugar color is a key quality parameter affecting market acceptance and profitability. Conventional decolorizing agents add costs to sugar production, driving the need for alternative methods. This study evaluated anionic-cationic flocculant mixtures in juice clarification to enhance color reduction without decolorizing agents. Factory trials were conducted to determine the optimal flocculant ratio, followed by a 3-month implementation period.
