This study develops a comprehensive roadmap to implement a green hydrogen production system in the sugar industry, taking advantage of its abundant biomass and co-products through advanced technologies such as electrolysis and gasification. A comprehensive analysis, including technical-economic and environmental impact assessments, shows significant potential in the sector, highlighting biomass gasification as a particularly promising technology. The research identifies key challenges such as infrastructure development, policy support and market development, while providing a practical framework for the successful integration of green hydrogen into the sugar value chain. The results highlight the opportunity for the industry to play a key role in the transition to a low-carbon economy. The discussion also focuses on green ammonia and oxy-hydrogen as future market opportunities. The proposed roadmap provides a plan for industry players to contribute significantly to environmental sustainability and economic growth. Notably, the Colombian sugar-alcohol industry is strategically positioned to capitalize on the emerging opportunities in the global market for green hydrogen, ammonia, and oxy-hydrogen, positioning the sector as a key player in clean energy production and climate change mitigation.
